A cement factory owned by Nigerian business tycoon and Africa's richest man,  Aliko Dangote, has been attacked by protesters in Ethiopia's Oromia region, the regional government has said in a statement.  The protests were in response to the deaths of at least 55 people in a stampede at a religious festival of the Oromo people on Sunday.

The protesters burnt trucks and machinery at the Dangote Cement Factory in Ada Berga, the state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate reports. Protesters also allegedly freed prisoners after setting ablaze a police station in the Bule Hora area, FBC reports.

A court and government-owned vehicles were also torched, it adds. Activists say the security forces opened fire at the festival, causing the stampede.  The festival was marred by protesters who chanted slogans demanding political freedom in Ethiopia.  The government has denied that the security forces opened fire, blaming the violence on "evil forces".

Online Dating

Considering the heavy scam going on on online dating this days, it has become a threaded place any man or woman can go seeking for love. Most African countries know for this kind of scams are Nigeria, Ghana and a few other African countries and thus some online dating sites have excluded them from their sites because of the scams and schemes coming out of those countries, but those who persevere can find love apparently.

Micky and Faith were able to find love as many are doing despite the negativity from the various online sites. I say hang in there and keep going. As you can see, it pays off on a long run.

Micky shares his story......

'Love knows no colour or distance, our relationship proved that as my beautiful wife Faith is from Nigeria and I’m from England, we met online and the distances seemed impossible and we had people on both sides telling us is isn’t real, it’s a scam, and if it isn’t, that we are too different for it to work out. And we will only end up giving up and much more. But our love for each other grew so did our strength.

To the point that we were willing to do anything to be together, as my loving wife proved by waiting a
whole year for me to travel to meet her. As much as it was so difficult for her because she got mucked couple of times, but I am so glad she got support of her family that helped her through it.So we ignored everyone and I traveled to her. We are now married and we are about to start our beautiful mixed family. True love conquers all and will always prevail'.

Remember love sees no colour, may God bless you all as he has blessed.Congrats to this beautiful couple!

Attorney General - We Can’t Release Dasuki Despite ECOWAS Court Ruling

Sequel to the ruling by ECOWAS court, mandating Nigeria to release former NSA Dasuki, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has explained why the Nigerian authorities have not released former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) court on October 4 directed Nigerian government to release Dasuki. Mr. Malami, reacting to the development, stated that the government needs to study the content of the judgement before acting on it. Salihu Isah, special adviser of Malami, disclosed to that the government’s position in a telephone interview. Isah said the Nigerian authorities need to fully understand the content of the court’s proceedings and judgment before responding.

“We cannot just react. We will first of all study the judgment to understand it’s content before taking a stand,” he stated. Some legal analyst, who also spoke on the matter, explained the effects of obedience or disobedience of the orders by government on Nigeria’s image. Samson Ameh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said: “ECOWAS court can entertain cases, but it has no infrastructures to enforce its judgments. It is the country from where the case came from, that it would rely upon to enforce the said judgement,” the lawyer said.

“Any country has the right to enforce or fail to enforce the judgment. There are no side effects legally, except that the image of the country may be lowered. It is like a moral, rather than a legal responsibility.” Former security adviser has been arrested last year for allegedly diverting billions of dollars meant for purchase of weapons to fight the deadly Boko Haram sect. Dasuki was also accused of illegal possession of arms.

While the court said it would not go into the details of whether or not Mr. Dasuki’s supposed possession of arms were criminal, it added that an owner is permitted to enjoyment of its property. President Muhammadu Buhari speaking during his first presidential media chat at the presidential in December, said that Dasuki like leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu cannot be allowed to enjoy any form of freedom due to the enormity of his offenses.

Erisco Foods

The recession is getting worst everyday. Even the market women in our society today is feeling the heat and it has really taken a toll to every individual in this country. It is enough that foreign companies are leaving Nigeria but for indigenous company to still leave Nigeria, it calls for immediate remedy.

According to Daily Post, an indigenous firm, Erisco Foods, has said it may be forced to shut down its production in the country due to its inability to access foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria for the procurement of machinery. The company’s Chief Executive, Mr. Eric Umeofia, said it would lay off 1,500 employees and quit Nigeria for a more favourable business environment if things don’t change.

He said this in Lagos on Wednesday when some of the company’s workers held a protest, lamenting plans by the company to halt operations and lay off workers. Umeofia said, “It is difficult for indigenous manufacturers to access forex despite CBN’s promise to manufacturers that they will allocate 60 per cent of foreign exchange to them. “It is unbelievable that for over two months, no forex has been allocated to Erisco Foods whereas the same forex is allocated daily for the importation of finished goods.

“Products that can be easily produced locally like fish head, tomato paste, razor blade are on the forex bids of the various banks.” He said that the high interest rates charged by commercial banks, importation as well as policy constraints were disincentives to manufacturer’s production in the country. He said, “The prices of our products are high due to high cost of production and this is in addition that we currently generate our own power.

“We have lost over N3.5bn in our bid to industrialise Nigerian economy and (are) ready to move our production section to another country.” Umeofia complained that the penchant of Nigerians for imported goods and lack of clear policy against importation of goods that could be manufactured locally were destroying manufacturers. He said, “We have stock of tomato paste worth over N6bn now and not selling due to dumping and conspiracy against indigenous manufacturers.

“We have complained publicly and officially to all the relevant government agencies with loads of evidence, but regrettably nothing has changed till date. “We will be forced against our patriotic wish to relocate our operations to a country where there is conducive and favourable environment for manufacturing if within 30 days from now nothing significant is done by the government to address these issues.

“We will lay off 1,500 of our employees in the factory, replicate our $150m investment in another country and from there import tomato paste to Nigeria.” Erisco Foods has a production capacity of 450,000 metric tons of tomato paste annually for 22 brands with over 2,000 workers. The company’s workers had in their hundreds held a peaceful protest against the management’s plan to shut its production worth about $150m.

The workers were seen carrying placards and chanting songs around the factory premises in Oregun, Lagos. The Area Sales Manager, Erisco Foods, Mr. Ayoola Oladayo, urged the Federal Government to save their jobs by intervening in the situation of the company.

He said, “We appeal to the government to save our jobs and families.

“The unemployment rate is alarming and we do not want to be classified as jobless in this harsh economic situation of the country. “About 2,000 of us will be affected in various factories if the company shuts down. “We urge the government to assist Erisco Foods and other indigenous manufacturers to continue to contribute to the country’s GDP.”

Mr. Obinna Ezeugwa, another worker, said that the country needed active participation of the private sector to create employment for the citizens for sustainable economic development.

Federal High Court Refuses To Stop Oduah’s Arrest Over N255m Armoured Cars Scam

$

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday dismissed an application by a former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, asking ‎for an order stopping the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the police from arresting her with respect to ongoing investigation into corruption allegation against her.

Oduah had filed the fundamental rights enforcement suit, asking the court to prohibit the Attorney-General of the Federation’s office, the EFCC, and the police from “inviting, arresting, investigating or prosecuting” her over the purchase of two armoured BMW vehicles at a cost of N255m by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority under her watch as the Aviation Minister in 2013.

A similar fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by the former minister, who is now a Senator representing Anambra North, was earlier struck out by Justice Okon Abang, then sitting in the Lagos Division, on February 17, 2016, for want of territorial jurisdiction.

Justice Abdu Kafarati in his judgment on Wednesday, upheld the objection raised by the respondents, to the effect that the court lacked the requisite jurisdiction to hear the case because the prayer sought in it was outside the ambit Chapter 4 of the Constitution which captured enforceable rights of persons.

He held that that no court had the power to stop security agencies from carrying out their duty of investigation. He also said such prayer could not constitute a fundamental rights action. He said it was in the interest of a person suspected of crimes to be invited by the investigating agency so that the suspect could give his or her own side of the story.

He added that the suit did not disclose any reasonable cause of action.

He said, “It is not grantable by this court because the court cannot stop security agencies from carrying out their duties. There is no way a person can be investigated without being invited by (the) body charged with the responsibility of investigation. “In most cases, the invitation is even in the interest of the invitee because he or she will have the opportunity of giving his or her side of the story.

“I therefore hold that the application seeking to stop security agencies from inviting, investigating, arresting and/or prosecuting any person suspected to have committed an offence does not constitute a fundamental right action.” Oduah had argued that the criminal allegations leveled against her as minister had been investigated by the EFCC and the House of Representatives’ Committee on Aviation, which both absolved her of any wrong doing.

She had maintained that the investigation was going to be used as tool for political persecution against her.

“Hello you,

“Thank you for showing interest in me. Now let me tell you something about me. I am HaruHi MiWaKo (Himiwako) and am blessed by Mother Nature to look the way that I do. I enjoy life and I hope you do too! Gaming, anime, playing the violin and piano are amongst the favourite things I like to do. What I like doing most is making people smile, just by walking down the street, or by playing games with an audience.

“My growth started March 2013 and it has been growing in varying stages throughout the years. It does not bother me that they are this huge, they are healthy and that’s what matters. Back pain is something I do not suffer from, and I do wear custom bra’s, so shopping for lingerie is quite the challenge.

I hope you folks will follow me on my journey through life and I wish you get some insight in what it’s like to live with the genetic gifts that have been given to me.”

What manner of abuse and idiosyncracy is this? How can ladies be searched like this in an open environment and by men still???

It all seem like the Ugandan security agents have perfected this method as a measure to prevent "contraband" being smuggled into stadiums. Some months ago, pictures went viral showing how female spectators were frisked before entering a stadium for a football match.

Now it has happened again. Here are recent pictures showing the same pattern of search which were conducted on some women before a match in the country.

Judge Awards Dino Melaye N10 Million In Case Against The Nigerian Police

$
0

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday granted N10 million in damages to controversial Nigerian senator, Dino Melaye, over a lawsuit filed by the senator against the Inspector General of Police. Mr. Melaye had filed the lawsuit in 2014 after the police stopped him from protesting against former Aviation minister, Stella Oduah, who had just been exposed by SaharaReporters for a scam in which she authorized the purchase of two overpriced bulletproof BMW cars for her personal use.

Police had manhandled and briefly detained Mr. Melaye as he led a group of protesters against the former minister, who is now a senator representing Anambra State. The police had justified their actions on the grounds that Mr. Melaye and fellow protesters had not obtained permission to stage their protest.

Justice Kolawole ruled that the police had violated Mr. Melaye’s rights, and awarded N10 million in damages to the senator.

However, in a parting shot, the judge mocked Mr. Melaye as a “self-styled” anti-corruption activist. He said he awarded the cost to the plaintiff because Nigerians have a right to peaceful protest, but also noted that Mr. Melaye has now become a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The usually loquacious Melaye made little noise about his court victory apparently because he and Ms. Oduah, the target of his aborted demonstration, are now both senators and part of a cabal at the Senate that backs Senate President Bukola Saraki who is facing trials for falsification of his asset declaration as well as money laundering.

It is getting so hot everyday in South Africa. Wonder what Mandela will be thinking in his grave right now. Versity students bares it all as the protest hike in school fees. Recall that this is not the first time the students have protested over the cost of university education. Just last year, the students clashed with university authorities forcing the government to freeze fee increases and set up a commission to look into the education funding system.

Reports has it that the students even clashed with arm enforcers purporting the police to fire stun grenades, rubber bullets and teargas at hundreds of students who marched through the university’s campus in Johannesburg, performing the “toyi-toyi” protest dance made popular during the struggle against oppressive white rule.

About two people were arrested earlier when police moved in to enforce a court order on public gathering at the university.

Hmmmm is this recession global???
